LANGKAWI, Jan 18 -- Forty-five local and foreign teams have confirmed their participation in the Royal Langkawi International Regatta 2006 for the Prime Minister's Challenge Trophy at the Royal Langkawi Yacht Club here from Feb 13 to 16.
Royal Langkawi Yacht Club general manager Wicky Sundram said today the foreign teams included those from Australia, England, Holland, New Zealand, Japan, Thailand and Singapore.
Malaysia, as the host, would be fielding five teams at the prestigious regatta, he said when met by Bernama, here Wednesday.
"We are targeting to attract 50 teams for the prestigious championship compared to 47 teams last year." he said.
Three yachts from the Royal Malaysian Navy are also competing in the championship.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi is expected to officiate at the closing of the race and give away prizes to the winners on Feb 16.
A special announcement to all participants of RLIR 2006. The closing ceremony date has been brought forward to 16th February 2006 and on 17th February 2006, the organizers are having a Gala Farewell Party and fun actvities as outlined.
