The Cable Car

That a cable car project is under construction was well known and we were already curious to see and find out what it will be when it is finished. I can hardly imagine that many people made the way up to the top of the Macincang by foot, through a dense jungle, thus it was little known, what it looks like on top of this mountain.

Even from the airplane there was hardly a chance to have a proper look at Macincang since the planes turn immediately south after take off.

But today we had the chance to do a trip with the gondola up to the top before the official opening.

We could not choose the day, since everything happened quite coincidentally. The view was interrupted by clouds and it didn't clear up on this 11th of October 2002.

The trip up was very exciting. We will not have each day the opportunity to move smooth in absolute silence 100 meters above the jungle canopy towards skies. Although the gondola made 3 meter in a second this ape like speed affected our stomachs less, than the acceleration of an aging elevator in an American office building.

With a peace, which appears nearly unbelievable, the cabin floats along and we hear only the voices of the jungle and the endless questions of the "VIP's" riding along" Shireen and Jamie.

The glass gondolas allow an unhindered all round visibility and give in no way the feeling to be locked up in a cage. Just the panorama during the way up makes the trip an experience.
