Green Turtle (Chelonia mydas) - Penyu Agar
The green turtle, is usually olive-brown in colour. It is named for the colour of its fat. Green turtles may grow over one meter in carapace length and weight between 135 - 170 kg. They are almost exclusively vegetarian and feed on sea grasses, algae and occasionally on sponge. Lays between 80 - 150 eggs per nest. In Pahang 90 % of the total landing are of this species.
It is the only sea turtle without a hard shell, having instead a leathery carapace with seven long ridges. It is black in colour with white, grey or pink patches. Leatherbacks have deeply notched upper jaws to help them capture jelly-fish, thier favourite food.
The name of this turtle is derived from its hawk-like beak. Adult hawksbills measure 70 - 80 cm in carapace length and weight between 35 - 75 kg. They live on coral reefs and eat sponge. Lays around 150 eggs on the average and is the most beautiful among the turtles.
Painted Terrapin ( Callagur borneonsis ) - Tuntong Laut
This species are usually found in river mouths. Its eggs are big compared to other turtles and lays between 15 - 30 eggs at one time. It is one of the species on the verge of extinction.
